Music on the Prairie

Today, after a long day of school, I headed outside. It was a beautiful day, too good to be cooped up inside. I took along my guitar.

There's something special about music and nature. When I played my guitar, there was a beautiful stillness of only the music and the wind blowing through the trees. It was magical.

My dad's been teaching me guitar for a few months now. I've been getting better and better at it, and he's a good teacher. Right now, the musical instruments I play are the guitar and piano. I kind of want to learn how to play the harp. What do you think?

There's beauty all around us. There's beauty you can see, and there's beauty you can hear.
Be on the lookout! It's definitely there. (Doesn't the grass look ombre in this picture?)

Our Indoor Garden

Hi everyone! Today I was watering our house plants, when I noticed a new flower. It was the first blossom of our cactus plant! I was so excited, I ran and got my mom. We are both flower fanatics.

Our orchids are also in bloom. My mom loves orchids, especially this one. She says it makes her happy.

We usually just grow flowers inside, but this year I tried growing a pepper plant. Let's just say... it didn't turn out like I thought it would. My peppers are all withered. Maybe it's because it didn't get enough sun, or maybe it got too much sun. My family calls it the "pitiful pepper plant". That pretty much says it all.

Gardening is a big thing for our family. We love growing plants and watching them turn into something great or beautiful. I guess that kind of goes with people, too. Even though it's hard, the only way people grow is through the weeds, the rain, and the thunderstorms.
Remember, "You can't have a rainbow... without a little rain."

FLOWERS FOREVER!

A Visitor

Today I was practicing my piano, trying to learn the new song my teacher taught me. It sort of sounds like an irish folk song, and it's very pretty. Is it just me, or do irish folk songs remind you of spring?

There was a knock on the door, so Angie answered it for me. I had no idea who it was, but I could hear Angie talking with her at the door.

"Carla, come here!" Angie interrupted, "There's someone you should see."
I came to the front door. It was Saige! She had taken up my offer and had come to visit, after all. She and Angie had been chatting like old friends.
"Hi Carla!" Saige said, smiling. "How come you didn't tell me Angie was your sister?"
"You two know each other?" I was really surprised.

"You know the community animal rescue center I volunteer at?" Angie asked.
"Of course," I said. Angie helps out there every week, while I'm at my art lessons. Our Aunt Sandie is the manager at the rescue center, so we can go help out whenever we like.
"Well," Angie explained, "Saige's mom volunteers there, and Saige goes with her and helps out, too. Saige and I have worked together lots of times."

I laughed. This really is a small world.

We took Saige all over the house and the garden, showing her around. When it got too windy outside, we came in and talked.
Snowbelle really took a shine to Saige. She crawled into her lap and stayed there, allowing Saige to pet her. Angie and I were really surprised, because we've never seen Snowbelle warm up to a stranger that fast.

Just before she left, Saige gave us each a rubber band bracelet she had made. She gave me a fishtail one with purple, green, and white, and Angie got a pretty blue and white one. I love mine so much!

I had such a fun time today. I hope Saige comes again soon, because she is such a charming friend. I'm sure Snowbelle hopes so, too!

Sunset With Snowbelle

Today was a beautiful fall day, so I took Snowbelle for a walk at sunset. She loves going outside, and she and I played in the leaves. Snowbelle is grown up, but she still frolics like a little kitten.

I've been trying to teach her some tricks. Who says only dogs can learn?

Snowbelle is the best cat in the world. We've rescued her two years ago, and I'm so happy she's mine. No matter how old she gets, she'll always be my little kitten!
Do you have a special pet? Comment below and tell me about it!

A New Friend

Today I was walking through the woods, when I saw a girl I've never seen before! She had long, auburn curls and was wearing a blue jacket.

I went up to introduce myself.
"Hi, my name is Carla!" I said.

"I'm Saige Copeland," the girl said, smiling. "I'm new. I just moved here a few weeks ago from Albuquerque."

"Albuquerque!" I exclaimed, "I've always wanted to go there. What's it like?"

Saige told me all about the balloon fiestas there, and the beautiful nature parks, zoos, horses and museums. She's a rider, and even has her own horse, named Georgia.

It seemed like Saige really missed her home back in New Mexico. I could understand- I knew what it was like to leave everything and come live in a strange place, too. So I told her about my Snowbelle, my cat, and all the silly tricks she's played. Saige laughed when I told her about when Snowbelle climbed onto my dad's head and was too scared to get down.

"Come visit me sometime," I offered.

"Thanks," Saige said, smiling. "I will."

Who would've known that when I went into the woods, I would come out with a friend?

Carla

More about me

Hi everyone! I'm new to this blogging world, so I wanted to share a little more about myself! I have a sister, Angie, and a cat named Snowbelle. My mom homeschools us- (Angie and I- not Snowbelle!)- and we love it! Part of the reason why I started this blog is to record our adventures, because we've already had so many and I want to be able to remember them!

Silly cat!

Carla
